The traditional expertise of the history museum is being challenged by programs that invite community members to become authorities on their own history. How do historical organizations across Massachusetts respond to this opportunity? At the 2020 Massachusetts History Conference, we will explore sharing authority once held as a matter of course by historical organizations, see how some organizations have partnered with a wide range of stakeholders, constituents, and visitors to share in the processes of remembering, collecting, and interpreting the past.
Join us in thinking about different ways we can engage our communities and open up history and the ownership of communities’ stories to everyone.
As it does every year, the conference will offer workshops and sessions that focus on practical matters such as skills development, governance, and fundraising, as well as offer many networking opportunities.
