Engaging community, building digital collections: An Introduction to RoPA (the Roadmap for Participatory Archiving) / [Crowdsourcing Digital Collections: Opportunities and Implications for Community Engagement]
Want to engage volunteers in digital projects? Thinking about using crowdsourcing as a tool to build digital collections? Join experts from UMass Boston’s University Archives and Special Collections and the Boston Public Library for two sessions all about bringing the community into collections work.
At 11am, join Tom Blake, Content Discovery Manager at Boston Public Library for “Crowdsourcing Digital Collections: Opportunities and Implications for Community Engagement.” Learn about the BPL’s crowdsourced volunteer project to transcribe 12,000 original manuscripts from prominent New England abolitionists, as well as explore the implications of opening historical collections up to communities for their input.
Then, at 2:30pm, at “Engaging Community, Building Digital Collections: An Introduction to RoPA (the Roadmap for Participatory Archiving),” Massachusetts Memories Road Show Project Manager Sarah Collins will discuss collaborating with community members to plan engaging and inclusive participatory archiving events and to create digital collections.
