Carl Carlsen is the author of the oral history Brickyard Stories 2.0: A Lynn MA Neighborhood Before and After Urban Renewal (2021), the sequel to Brickyard Stories: A Neighborhood and its Traditions (1985). While teaching English at North Shore Community College, he created and curated the Poetry of Places in Essex County website and produced and presented many public programs featuring local poetry. In retirement, Carl completed “Fifty Years on Seven Seas,” an oral history of his father’s career as a merchant mariner, available on the website of the Norwegian War Sailors, and “They Came Out,” Holocaust diaspora stories of his mother’s family, available on the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum website.
